New appointment system and application procedures for visa applicants are available at www.ustraveldocs.com/ro

The tourist visa (B2) allows a traveler to visit the United States temporarily for pleasure. This may include visiting family, friends, acquaintances, or simply traveling throughout the United States. The business visa (B1) allows a traveler to go to the United States temporarily to engage in commercial transactions, negotiate contracts, conduct litigation, consult with business associates, or participate in scientific, educational, professional conferences or seminars.

If you apply for a B1/B2 (business/tourism) visa and a C1/D visa (crew member in transit) at the same time, you will pay only one application fee (USD 160).

For more information about visitor visas, please visit the Visitor Visas page.

Whether the travel is for business or pleasure, applicants must demonstrate to the consular officer that the purpose of the trip is legitimate and that they will not engage in any activity except for what is allowed by the visa. They must also demonstrate that they have strong ties to Romania and have good reasons to return after a brief visit.

For more information on the documentation needed for those persons desiring to travel to the United States for medical treatment, please visit the Visitor Visas - Business and Pleasure page.

For any visa-related question not answered on the consular section’s website, applicants may refer to the A-Z Subject Index or send a message to the following email address: VisasBucharest@state.gov. In most cases, the message will be answered within 3 business days.

Important Information

  • Violating the terms of your visa by overstaying or working illegally in the United States can prevent you from obtaining another non-immigrant or immigrant visa in the future.
